After a beautiful weekend of spring weather, our Monday weather was a little unpredicatable. We were outside as the sun struggled through the greyish clouds, then inside as a downpour of rain thundered outside.

As the rain poured, tamariki painted. This time they chose cottonballs as their painting tool, to dip and paint with.

Fun with friends. #gigglestepuke
Leading on from a glorious weekend of summer-like weather, Monday proved that clear skies and sunshine were perfect conditions for teamwork. Over the weekend the lawns were mown, and the outside equipment moved around. Tamariki decided that they wanted the large buoy inside the tyre centres, and with muscle power, might and team commitment, they succeeded. #gigglestepuke
Blowing bubbles is something from our own childhood, and children of all ages love watching the science behind creating bubbles. In the past we’ve created huge bubbles down on our ‘green’ play area. But today, tamariki are creating small bubbles, lots of small bubbles. Blowing down a straw into a mixture of detergent and glycerin (glycerol) creates bubbles which stick together and last longer. #gigglestepuke

Facepainting - concentration, patience, perseverance and practice.
Yesterday Wendy from Te Puke Response Team visited Giggles today. Wendy talked about how to curl ourselves into a ‘turtle’ to keep ourselves safe in an earthquake and we practiced being ‘turtle safe.’ Wendy talked about storms and different types of weather hazards like tornados. We looked out the window at the heavy rain hitting the windows, and then Wendy switched off the lights to show what it looked like if there was a power cut. Wendy brought out a solar-power charger to charge mobile phones, some torches and the light/radio were wind-ups not needing normal batteries There was so much that Wendy talked about, and we are very grateful for Wendy’s time and sharing her knowledge with us.
